November 5 2020: Poison Evidence Summary
Parachute and the Injury Prevention Centre, University of Alberta, publish the Evidence Summary on the Prevention of Poisoning in Canada, the first national publication on leading causes of unintentional poisoning across the country and what is being done to address this cause of injury.

Health Canada provides support through to 2023 to create and engage Canadians in understanding the effects on young children of unintentional exposure to edible cannabis, part of Parachute’s home safety poison prevention outreach. Following research and an Ipsos survey, phase one launches in March.
March 2 2020: 15th anniversary of Brain Waves
Brain Waves, a free, informative and fun half-day neuroscience presentation for students in grades 4 to 6, celebrates its 15th anniversary after reaching more than a quarter-million children across Canada. Volunteers deliver the program, developed and supported by Parachute.
February 19 2020: Vision Zero on the international stage
Parachute’s President and CEO Pamela Fuselli attends the 3rd Global Ministerial Road Safety Conference in Stockholm, Sweden as an invited representative of Canada’s Vision Zero movement.

As part of the Concussion Harmonization Project Phase 2, Parachute launches the #CheckForConcussion campaign featuring Canadian star athletes Scott Moir, Marie-Philip Poulin, Cindy Ouellet and Steve Podborski. Bell Media donates airtime for the PSA and digital billboards across Canada.

Parachute launches Elementary Road Safety, a program designed to make school communities safer by implementing evidence-based solutions that will address issues within each community that adopts the program, with the support of Founding Sponsor Aviva Canada.
September 17 2019: Smart Hockey
Parachute Smart Hockey is designed to keep hockey players safe and prevent brain injuries on the ice. This new program provides resources to recognize and manage concussion injuries designed for young hockey players, their coaches and parents.

The Board of Directors selects Pamela Fuselli, who had served as Parachute’s Vice President, Knowledge Translation and Stakeholder Relations since the charity formed in 2012, as the charity’s third President and CEO.

Health Canada announces funding to launch a two-year campaign aimed at convincing young Canadians ages 15 to 24 that cannabis impairs a person’s ability to drive safely.
April 22 2019: Concussion Harmonization Project, phase 2
Public Health Agency of Canada announces the renewal of Parachute’s funding to continue its work with sports groups, educators and others to have concussion recognition and management protocols adopted throughout the country, based on the 2017 Canadian Guideline on Concussion in Sport.

Parachute lobbies for and establishes this annual health promotion day recognized by Health Canada, held annually on July 5 or on the Monday following July 5, should that date fall on a weekend.

Parachute forms through the amalgamation of four legacy organizations to create one, strengthened voice for injury prevention. Parachute unites the former organizations of Safe Communities Canada, Safe Kids Canada, SMARTRISK and ThinkFirst Canada, led by founding President and CEO Louise Logan.
